Go West, Random Aged Person

(Well, we can no longer assume a young man, can we??)

But what am I talking about?

At all the 2022 craft events I’ve attended, I have loved seeing a spectacular shawl, in multiple colours, around multiple shoulders. When asked about the pattern, the response was ‘Stephen West (from Westknits) MKAL 2021’.

I was so impressed that I’ve signed up for Stephen’s MKAL 2022!

Have you? If not, you’ll find more details on the Westknits website .

So, for this ‘Twists and Turns’ MKAL, the instructions say we’ll need five skeins of 4 ply / fingering weight yarn. We’ll need

  • 2 x main colour

  • 2 x contrasting colour

  • 1 x ‘pop’ colour (for embellishments etc)

Stephen has some kits and colours on his website too, but of course, he’s in the Netherlands! And I wanted to experiment with colours…. So out came the dye pots.

I used two bases of yarn - a natural fawn 80% merino wool / 20% alpaca yarn, and a white 80% polwarth wool / 20% alpaca yarn. But they’re very similar in style, so will mix together if I want.

What do you think?

And there will be some left over, which I will put in the shop, if anyone wants to join me on the MKAL!

(PS MKAL stands for ‘Mystery Knit Along)
