And in 2011 we bought a house in Miranda, New Zealand, with a view. The fact it came with 13 hectares of land was a bit of a surprise! Admittedly not the best quality land - but ideal for the four pet alpacas that we’d always dreamed of. And the dream expanded - to over 50 alpacas!

But what to do with that beautiful fleece? We sent it to be carded, and to the alpaca fibre pool, who turned it into beautiful yarn. And I started crafting. Spinning that amazingly soft carded fibre, and dyeing the yarn from the fibre pool. But there’s only so much yarn and fibre you can keep in the garage!

So in October 2017, Ripping Yarns was born, to provide an outlet for that yarn and fleece (and clear up some space in the garage, so that I can fill it up again!)

We’re passionate about supporting the local New Zealand fibre industry, so all of our yarns and fibre are sourced from New Zealand farms and mills.
